Sensory Environment Assessments
Every setting we have to use, or be in, provides us with a range of sensory demands that have to be met before we engage in the actual task or activity. Some environments can be challenging and distracting even for those who have typical neurology but may be almost possible for those with sensory processing difficulties.
Many of the demands in the environmental setting of the home may be more easily seen but schools all bring particular sensory challenges as do eth various community settings and works places that people need to manage on a day to day basis.
An environmental sensory assessment looks more at the setting and the sensory demands made on all those who may be using the setting. By understanding the broader context it allows parents, school staff, care home staff employers and community organisers to make reasonable adjustments to facilitate involvement and participation of those who may have found that setting too overwhelming or challenging in some way or may miss information or not understand what the setting requires of them.
